    Job Description:

    SUMMARY

    Under the direction of the Director of Education, Tutors have the responsibility of tutoring students in the After School Program. The Tutoring Program serves students K-12 from diverse backgrounds. The goal of the program is to provide a positive mentoring educational environment which allows for academic success. Tutors will provide services to youth in the After School Program and possibly at designated sites (public libraries, public locales) in one on one sessions with youth K-12.

    PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Responsible for using test results to design appropriate educational programs for each student, to include instruction in basic and advanced skills.
    • Responsible for the scheduling of tutoring sessions in consultation with instruction and/or school staff so that staff and students are assured consistent and coordinated tutoring.
    • Responsible for assisting the students with homework to improve academic performance Responsible for the communicating with the Education Department on the needs, and progress of students
    • Responsible for approaching students with a positive attitude with the expectation that students will learn and grow.
    • Responsible for making lesson adjustments as needed to help students experience success
    • Responsible for appropriate documentation, such as keeping a record of dates, length and content of each tutoring session.
      Responsible for assisting the After School Program Monitor during program hours.
      Responsible of picking up students for the After School Program and returning them to home in a tribal vehicle.
    • Responsible for documenting in a log of how his/her time is spent while on the job.
    • Maintain appearance standards as outlined in CTCLUSI policies.
    • Must be able to interact with Tribal members and the general public in a courteous, professional, and efficient manner.
    • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
    • Maintain a good attendance record.
    • Other duties as directed by management.

    PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS

    • Must be able to walk, talk, hear, use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
    • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
    • Must be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 40 pounds.

    WORKING CONDITIONS & ENVIRONMENT

    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.

    HOURS

    • Typically Tuesdays from 2:30pm to 6pm
    • Generally Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm with possible occasional evening and weekend work.

    Experience and Skills:

    MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

    • Must be at least 25 years of age per Tribal Vehicle Use Policy.
    • Completion of at least one year of study at an institution of higher education.
    • Must be proficient in tutoring middle school and high school math.
    • Prefer previous experience working with students.
    • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
    • Demonstrated ability to respect the confidentiality of student information.
    • Demonstrated good attendance and punctuality.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with students, parents and the public in a tactful and courteous manner.
    • Basic email and Microsoft Word experience is required.
    • Ability to work a flexible number of hours as needed based on student needs.
    • Valid Oregon driver's license and adequate transportation required. This position may include providing transportation for Native and non-Native American clients in tribally owned or employee’s private motor vehicle(s).
    • Must possess reasonable ability to communicate in English.
    • This position is subject to pre-employment drug testing.
    • This is a covered position which requires background check that includes fingerprinting.
    • Must be willing to undergo School District background requirements.
    • Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.
    • Indian preference will be observed in the hiring process.
